Don’t Die with the Music in You

It is easy to look down from the top of the Premiership table. However when you look back up from the bottom, it has a totally different perspective.

Just ‘cause your at the top of the mountain doesn’t mean you cannot climb higher!

This is the question that presents itself to both Triple WWW and F Troop this weekend. Round 5 has produced the equivalent of a blockbuster from an independent movie company. Perennial wooden spooners F Troop and fellow historic bottom feeders Triple WWW meet after creating a new order. Both undefeated, both riding high but only one will remain on top after this weekend's round. Number 1 draft picks Chris Page and Toby Wilcox are producing results that matter for F Troop and their teammates are striving like never before; the results are remarkable. Tim Cahill has given Triple WWW the hope they have never had. His massive early season scoring was predicted and as been subsequently delivered. His team mates are now responding after finding that the air is cleaner at the top of the mountain and this makes it easier to jump out of bed on a cold Saturday morning and play. They are playing with vigor and it is impossible to predict the result of this match, it is the independent movie of the year.

The other Blockbuster though comes straight out of a Hollywood studio. The Corruptibles and the Ferretts have history and not the sort taught in boarding schools around our great land. There is little love lost between a team that has promised so much and has yet to deliver and a team that promises nothing yet has delivered plenty. The scoffing that the Corruptibles received when they revealed the ‘2010 YES’ caps from the mighty Ferrets was in disdain. It was sledging that was thick and let’s face it, deserved, who would have thought? However the last laugh is always longest and the Corruptibles have been laughing hard all summer and intend to keep doing so. The emails that fly back and forth between these two teams are the real reason for global warming, hot in content and thick in intent. However it is up to the Ferrets to respond. They are the team that still expects so much and they must create a will to win this Saturday that can produce a result. They are known in July for almost handling the pressure of finals, The Corruptibles now know they can. The Ferrets must face up, a loss will make a long season longer, a win may ease the content of cyberspace. The Corruptibles are the Premiers and the email, thick with home truths from the keyboard of the spiritual leader will be prepped and ready to send, the Globe will get hotter if the Ferrets lose again.

There are no Great Men, Just Ordinary Men that meet Great Challenges

The Buglers, 2 time premiers were considered great but the true measure of this team will come over the next 5 weeks. It is difficult to look at the Premiership Table and realize the depths that this once proud team has sunk to. Winless after 4 rounds it is a crisis. Another loss this week to arch rivals the Tunners will see their season over, gone before Easter, heat still in the sun and winter still to close in. It is hard to win many in a row now, the volatility of the handicapping system has seen to this. However this team needs to believe again. It has to find the steel that had it fixed to the top of the mountain for the first 2 years, unyielding; the team all aspired to be. The personal has changed little but the spirit within has dissolved to water. Was Tom Robson the Bourbon, Tim Johnston the Rum? Tommy is back and already the fire is back into the captain, superb last week. Winning is infectious and becomes a habit. If they knock over the Tunners they have the ability to turn things around, but it is a big if. The Tunners are good, and will not lie down. Great Challenges await the Buglers, ordinary men facing the chance to prove once and for all that they are great…..
